The Memorial Tournament is first U.S. golf tournament to be completely RFID enabled!

NORCROSS, GA – The management team for the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide partnered with Stark RFID and FineLine Technologies to create a comprehensive event experience for fans at the recently held 2017 Memorial Tournament. With new RFID enabled badges, stickers, car hang tags and passes supporting their “It’s more than a badge” campaign, the Tournament, Stark and FineLine accomplished an effective operation from production to on-site credential reading.  This partnership was a perfect fit, with Stark RFID spearheading the customized event management RFID solution and FineLine providing the credentials.  FineLine was selected because of their flexibility in incorporating RFID into different formats – badges, tickets, and stickers – as well as their superior quality control, ability to manage data, and adherence to very precise packaging requirements.

This is the first U.S. golf tournament to be completely RFID enabled.  Using RFID enabled badges the Memorial Tournament organizers desired to take the patron experience to the “next level”. Faster admissions at the various entry points, with tighter access control for the flexibility to easily determine level of access and make changes on the spot were made possible. Tournament organizers also wanted to understand more about their patrons, to personalize the fan experience. For example, the Golden Bear Club displayed a fan’s name on a screen as they entered, and then again on a delayed timer when they visited the bar to order food or beverage items.

The Memorial Tournament offers a range of access and experiences for patrons, which required four different formats of credentials: weekly badges, daily badges (weekly badge in a daily format), volunteer tickets, and daily practice round stickers. Across these formats there were 49 different copies with varying graphics and access requirements.  FineLine utilized a variety of materials, digital printing, lamination, and foiling. As well as two types of UHF RFID tags, to provide visually appealing credentials for Memorial Tournament patrons.  Credentials were sequentially numbered with no missing pieces and packed in specific bundles, trays, and cartons.

Working with Stark RFID and the Memorial Tournament, FineLine met the high visual standards for credentials that the Tournament requires, while incorporating the RFID technology that enabled Stark RFID’s innovative solutions for access control and attendee engagement.
